Crawl-i-gator

Posted in crawl at 7:51 pm by nebeli

When Neb was little, his Mom got him a popular 70’s gadget called the crawl-i-gator. Think of it as a small skate board that dropped like a bowl in the middle for a baby’s tummy to fit in… Kids could pull themselves around “crawling” without having to do the legwork, so to speak. Neb apparently loved his, and swears he got his bad shoulders from pulling himself around on it. They don’t make them any more, we guess too many kids went flying down stairs to make it a viable toy for the market.

Which reminds me…

B-Boy is officially crawling all over the place. He falls back to the Army crawl (on his tummy pulling himself forward with his arms) once in a while, but this week he officially started crawling on all fours. He is all over the place now… And boy is he fast!!!

Fortunately, we are faster, but that won’t last long… and it also means that we have to keep a closer eye on him. Odds are, he’ll beat us in the end.

A big week of firsts

Posted in crawl, firsts at 6:01 pm by nebeli

This week has flown by, and much of that is due to the fact that B-Boy has had a BIG week of firsts. There is so much to tell you, so I will break it up into several posts- with lots of photos.

On Monday, I went to feed B-Boy his bottle at the daycare. When I walked in, all three of his teachers said “Your world is about to completely change! Come see what B-Boy can do now!”

And then I watch B-Boy crawl.

Well, more like crawl-like. He would lay on his tummy, put his hands out far in front of him as he could, and PULLLLLL himself forward. Then he would stretch his arms out again, and continue the process.

It was amazing.

How did I get here?

Wheeeeeeeee!

When we got home, B-Boy showed Neb what he can now. It was so fun to watch, and Neb was really excited to see B-Boy moving. I was so proud that he was still doing it, and could show his Daddy.

Since then, he has gotten better and better at it, and raises himself up in the air on all fours. He isn’t crawling that way yet, but is so very close.

He moves all over now, and his world has opened up. He can now get to his toys and more importantly, his pacifiers. Life is good.

Update on Crawling

Posted in crawl at 8:27 pm by nebeli

B-Boy is getting ever closer to crawling. Neb and I have been working with him, getting him on his knees, etc.

At first, he would just slump on the floor in a fit of giggles… he thought Neb was playing a game. Then I decided to try something different. Usually after he eats, he likes to stand on the floor between my legs with his arms over my legs for support. I decided to try letting him sit on his knees instead. It worked pretty good, and B-Boy got to feel those muscles getting used. After that, we could get him up on all fours, although one of us has to hold his legs in, as he keeps wanting to flail them out like a frog.

This week, we started putting him on all fours more… and then Neb would move his hands/arms in a crawling motion while I moved his legs. It’s a good thing no one was here to record that… cuz we must have looked REALLY funny.  At first, B-Boy would tenatively move his hand… but now, a week later, he is just trucking away moving his hands forward. Boom, goes the right… Bam goes the left…

His legs have not caught up yet… but he is making good progress with his arms. Last night he even balanced on one arm so he could climb on a large board book with the other. It’s just amazing to see how far he has come.

Which reminds me of a funny story… I was talking to his teachers yesterday about where B-Boy is with crawling. We were discussing how to motivate him to get going, so to speak… they were saying to put things he wants out of reach (which is a long way away when you have arms as long as B-Boy). I was telling them what a challenge that is because he is so logical. Too logical. When he wants something at home, he is usually on the living room floor on top of a blanket. He has figured out that he doesn’t have to go get what he wants… he can make it come to him. How? He simply pulls on the blanket until what he wants makes it within his reach.
I know, that is amusing, a chuckle pehaps, but not necessarily funny. Right? Well, that was not the funny part.

His teacher started laughing and said, “Oh my gosh, you aren’t kidding! He did that yesterday. One of the little baby girls, K-baby (who is 4 months old), was laying on a blanket next to B-Boy. He obviously wanted her, because the next thing we knew, he pulled on the blanket – and pulled her right to him.”

I could not stop laughing… I could just see it all happening. The blanket pull, K-baby saying “Wheeeee” and B-Boy saying “Hey pretty girl, how you doin’?”

Heh heh. He is Neb’s son after all.
